Decoding Science, Math, and Geography words

(Intro. to Greek and Latin)

This program curriculum has been curated aid students in decoding scientific, mathematic, and geographic words with bases in Greek and Latin. As students enter the middle school grades they will begin to more frequently encounter Greek and Latin based words in their studies. About just over 60% of English words come from Greek and Latin. Knowing a little Greek and Latin is like knowing a secret code. This short program helps with comprehension of words as we learn the meaning behind the Greek and Latin roots, as well as the spelling.

Example of a class: Studying at what prefixes, Root words and Suffixes are and how they can be used;

 
  • Pre=before (preview)

  • re=again (return)

  • aqua=water (aquatic)

  • cycl=circle (tricycle)

  • arium=place (aquarium)

  • ify=to make (solidify)

This program is the natural next progression after completing the Reading Remediation program. This program is offered in person and through Digital Distance Learning.
